Path of Exile Item Upgrading

Components
Upgrade components are the items that improve your armor and weapons better. They can be obtained by fighting off enemies, locating them in item spheres, or buying them from karma dealers. Upgrade components cannot be destroyed when you remove them from an item.
The primary function of upgrade components is to enable an item to be upgraded, however, they also serve other purposes. They can be used to boost the value of an upgradeable item or they can be used to boost the amount of experience gained from upgrading an existing weapon or piece of equipment.
