Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade
Item upgrade, also known as "upping," improves an item's stats. Each upgrade increment gives a linear increase in any stat.

Upgrade components
In Guild Wars 2, an upgrade of an item can be a method to increase the stats of your armor and weapons. Upgradeable items can be found in the game, both within the world and as rewards for missions. They can also be created by players. Upgrade components are the primary method to upgrade equipment. These are items that can slot into equipment. Most equipment has upgrade slots, and many require a certain upgrade level. There are many types of upgrade elements in the game, such as universal upgrades, inscriptions, and jewels. Universal upgrades, like gemstones and enchantments, can be used in any type of equipment and offer fewer bonuses than those that are equipment-type specific to the type of equipment. Most upgrade components slotted into items are not able to be replaced or salvaged without removing the gear in question, unless it is legendary equipment and upgrades. If you have a glyph or rune you don't want to use, but it hasn't been incorporated to the gear yet, you can move the item to another piece by using the Upgrade Glyphs menu on the Glyphs Panel. This will create a Glyph Set that includes the selected glyph.
You can take out any glyph with the help of the Black Lion Salvage Kit, or an Ascended Salvage tool. The item where the glyph is installed will be destroyed, but the upgraded item can be salvaged by removing the glyph fragments.
A glyph added to an item may cause it to become unstable and the shards that are left of that glyph will disappear from your inventory when you take it down. You can also place an inscription on your equipment to increase its value. For example, the glyph Deferred Damage can store damage for the wearer and then deal it out slowly instead of all at once. This can be helpful for those who take a lot of damage from their enemies, but do not want to be overwhelmed.
Reroll tokens
Reroll tokens permit players to alter the affixes they use on their weapons and equipment, and can be found in various ways like mistery boxes, as an uncommon drop from skulled creatures, or by killing bosses. Each reroll gives the player an affix randomly chosen and generally better than the one they had before. Reroll tokens can also be used to improve the weapon's stats to increase damage or bonuses.
Items that have been rerolled will not appear in the upgrade menu, but they are still eligible to receive upgrades. When you press the "upgrade button" you can recycle the rerolled items. This will alter the layout of the item's window and let up to six items be selected to recycle. The level gauge is increased by recycling an item. The amount is by the item's rarity and its level.
